So, uh, thanks to a cats eye on the road, and a black SUV, I have two screws and a plate in my right leg. Two Wheels bad, two wheels are still fun though

First time I got on a bike - 1000cc, I think - big Yamaha. Put it down. Put me off motorcycles for good.

3 days after my Uncle got his Harley, he got t-boned by F-150. He survived, but he decided that 2 wheels weren't fun enough to warrant getting on the road with other drivers any more.

Yep, that'd do it. My first bike was an overpowered 600 and if I had it to do over again, I'd choose differently

You should give a stock 250 a shot at changing your mind. It would be like a tiger striped house cat in comparison to the wild Bengal tiger you met earlier.

Glad you survived the experience though.

Yeah - that thing was HEAVY. And at this point, I don't need a motorcycle, or a car. I live in the city, and it costs a lot to keep either one. Subway, taxis, Uber, and once in a while a Hertz rental. That's my life now.

That sucks. Get healed up and then back out there.

Out of curiosity: Were you wearing gear? It sounds like a minor injury for a description that includes "black SUV."

And did the ride survive?

But, but, but...they're fun. You need access to one because they are fun.

aw, that sucks man. After my first bone-breaking accident (thanks to a 95 year-old man in a Mercedes sl450) I didn't think I'd ride again, but I just couldn't stay away. Broken legs blow, they make it harder to get around... Though driving stick with arm in a cast wasn't easy ;) heal well!

Ouch. I crashed mine last summer but luckily just fractured a few things. Hope you have a speedy recovery! Two wheels addictive!

I had two friends that wanted 600cc sport bikes for their first bikes. Both argued passionately that it was a great idea, as it was only a 600 and the internet said it's a perfectly good starter bike.

for the first friend, when we looked at a YFZ600R, I popped a wheelie during the test ride and told him how easy it is to accidentally lose control. he thought that was cool, bought it, and doesn't ride anymore.

for my second friend, when we looked at a GSXR600, I knew better, so I refused to ride it. I made him get on it but not test ride it, and asked him if he really felt comfortable learning to ride on it. he didn't, so we looked at a GS500F that he bought and learned how to ride on. he then moved on to a ZZR600 and doesn't ride anymore.

so the moral of the story is to recommend to your friends to buy the bikes that you want to own. that way, when they don't use them, you can pick them up for cheap. had either bought an enduro, I might be out riding today.

sorry to hear about your injury.

knock on wood. I've been riding on streets since high school and riding in the dirt since I was like 5, and I haven't broken anything. I also am also a slow, passive rider that is convinced every mothereffer on the road is trying to kill me.

the one time I did go down on a street bike was in a parking lot. an indian woman was driving in the wrong lane, and when I tried to go around her, she swerved back at me and I slid pinned between an oncoming car and a parked car as she hauled ass away instead of even taking a f'ing second of her life to make sure I was okay. while I still have a strong resentment towards her, I fully acknowledge that had I been going slower, or had I not tried to be a politically correct SJW and take the stereotype that foreign women drivers in large SUVs aren't exactly the best drivers in the world and I should proceed with caution, I likely wouldn't have gone down.

so the moral here is that while your situation sucked, and while other drivers are likely at fault, that doesn't change the fact that you got hurt in a wreck, so the best thing you can do is try to learn from it so that when someone does stupid again, and they always do, you are better prepared to handle that scenario should you ever find yourself in it again. maybe it just requires something simple like viewing every Toyota Prius driver as a Fast And Furious lane cutting d-bag, or every SUV/Bro Truck as 2x as big of a vehicle as the driver is capable of driving. maybe it requires a motorcycle safety course or some track time. maybe you should ride alternate routes in which visibility is improved. I don't know. but there's likely something positive in this that can make you a better and safer rider.

Sadly, the wife would find it. We're in 500 SF here, so I'm reduced to rental cars.
